Carpal tunnel revisited

Carpal tunnel treatment-evidence based

The picture above is from the website nervesurgery.wustl.edu. The red coloring region is the distribution of the median nerve. When the carpal tunnel area has swelling it compresses this nerve and causes numbness and sometimes even weakness in the area that is red above. If it is severe there can even be muscle wasting in the palm region of the thumb called the thenar eminence.

One of the best treatments for carpal tunnel is below.

In a study in the Advanced Biomedical Research Journal 2016 it showed that a neutral wrist splint and an injection of 40 mg Depo-Medrol helped the nerve conduction and patient satisfaction with those with carpal tunnel syndrome.
Adv Biomed Res. 2016 Feb 8;5:16. Effectiveness of splinting and splinting plus local steroid injection in severe carpal tunnel syndrome: A Randomized control clinical trial.
These braces are excellent to wear at night because the wrist often times will be bent at night putting extra pressure on the median nerve region.
